I'm in love with this woman,
I'm satisfied with the result, but her skin....looks too smooth, it make her look like a plastic doll, there is no skin pores; I usually let the paper texture do the job, but this time I used Opalina paper (I use this kind of paper for my colored pencils drawings, because it's really smooth) it's really hard to make skin texture in opalina, .........please tell me what you think about....

SIZE: 23x29cm (9,05x11.4")
DATE: 08/07/12
TIME: like 8 hrs
TOOLS: Staedler and Faber castel graphite pencils on opaline paper

This "Opalina paper," is it something we can buy in the U.S.? My Google search isn't making me happy.

If anyone can hit me back with a link....

Some artists will draw the skin texture in. Perhaps this will push your macro skills, but perhaps doing so would just slow the process down too much. Yes, her skin is too smooth. The hands and wrists lack depth; their edges do not resolve properly. Looks like you started with the eyes, then gradually sped up. I say this because the eyes and surrounding area has the detail you want; the farther we get from the eyes, the less detail and effort we see. I should know, because I do this, too, when I'm in a rush to finish one.

Funny how you don't like this paper because it is too smooth, while I don't like any paper I've ever worked on, because it's too rough. I'm always finishing my drawings with blending tools to mask the texture of the paper.

I'd love to find some of this Opalina paper of yours.

Maybe her hands are a bit too smooth, but her eyes/nose/lips are perfect

ok. This is my FAVORITE piece in your gallery. I love the 'smooth' effect that you complain about. Hyperrealism with a unique style (I know, that's an oxymoron). And the hair!...everything about this piece takes my breath away.

I think the skin is good. ;) I like the smooch look - it makes the picture specific. I like especially her eyes and lips. Overall it's really beautiful. Amazing likeness! :aww: :clap:
But if you think there's a lack of pores, you can draw them by hand ;). I'm drawing her right now (as queen Ravenna) and I had the same problem so I tried it and it's not difficult. The difference is in time - I've been drawing it for 40 hours and still it's not finished...^^;

thanks, I prefer to use the paper's texture for skin pores, but this paper was totally smooth, draw pore one by one is really annoying and I'm so impatient, I'd never finish a drawing that spent more than 30 hours, so I really admire your patience, good luck with your artwork!!.....

hahaha :giggle:, yay, I believe that using paper's texture is much easier and faster. :D But I think you're fast anyway so you might be faster than me...;)
Thank you very much! :D It's nearly finished - I believe I can finish it today! :D

unbelievable shading on the face. I don't think the lighting on the hands fits. not sure. they just don't look right. amazing job though.

the face is stunning, the shading and highlights are just perfect giving the face a lot of depth, but as metioned before the hands look a little to flat than the rest of the picture. But overall a very nice drawing :)
